Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Washington County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be retained long enough to respond and maintain the exchange. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Ordinary server and analytics records may capture technical facts when a page loads:
- Device IP address
- Browser type and version
- Operating system and device category
- Pages viewed and time spent
- Referring website, when available
- Date and time of each request
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files that help measure how visitors use the website, including popular pages and common exit points. Analytics vendors may combine that traffic into reports. Browser controls can block cookies, although some features may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
Collected technical and operational data may be used for the following purposes:
- Operating the website and improving load performance
- Routing a search request to the selected partner
- Understanding which material readers use
- Finding and correcting technical faults
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Washington County Criminal History does not compile, sell, or maintain a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general access information for Washington County courts, the Sheriff's Office, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not turned into a third-party criminal record or consumer report. This website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information entered there is handled under the provider's privacy policy, including its own retention and sharing rules. Review those terms before sending a query because this policy does not govern a partner's system.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Washington County offices, New York courts, DCJS, legal resources, advertisers, or search services. Once a visitor leaves this website, the destination's privacy rules apply. Some advertising providers may also use their own technology to measure activity across websites; that processing occurs on their systems.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Search providers that process a query submitted through their tool
- Analytics services used to measure traffic and performance
- Advertising networks that place or measure ads
- Government or law-enforcement bodies responding to a valid legal requirement
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for data under our control. No internet system can promise absolute security, so these measures cannot guarantee that a breach or misuse will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly seek personal information from anyone under eighteen. Information identified as belonging to a minor will be deleted when a valid request brings it to our attention.
Your Data Rights
Applicable New York consumer-protection law, including General Business Law ยง349, may protect visitors from deceptive business practices. Depending on the law that applies to a request, a visitor may be able to:
- Ask what personal information is held
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Seek deletion of personal information
- Object to certain processing where a legal right permits it
